What’s the difference between BMW 320i and 330i?

BMW is known for making high-quality vehicles. Their 3 Series cars are some of the leaders in the luxury sports-sedan market, with the 320i and 330i being part of that group. Both of these cars are great choices for anyone who values performance and wants to drive something sleek and elegant, and at Active Euroworks in Pflugerville Texas, we work on these types of models.

What exactly are the differences between the two?

First of all, the BMW 3 Series 330i is the higher-end vehicle of the two. As expected, it has a more powerful engine and some upgrades on the interior of the cabin.

The BMW 330i runs on a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine that can achieve 255 horsepower. The inline four-cylinder model uses variable valve control and high-precision direct injection for greater efficiency. The Auto Start-Stop feature that turns the car off when idling only to turn it on again when you’re ready to go boosts fuel economy as well. The engine is paired with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission that comes with both Sport and Manual shift modes. Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are conveniently placed.

Less power, still awesome acceleration.

The BMW 320i has a similar TwinPower Turbo engine, but due to some design differences, it gets 180 horsepower. This is still pretty impressive and allows for responsive acceleration as you drive your BMW around Pflugerville, Austin and all of Texas. With the 320i, you can choose from either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel economy is pretty similar in both models. The 320i gets an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The 330i is estimated to get 24 mpg on the city and 34 on the highway. These stats are applicable when your car is well-maintained, and we can help you with that as your preferred Austin BMW mechanic.

Inside the cars, you’ll find nice touches like premium materials, heated seats, adjustable positions, and elegant trim. Both of these vehicles use the iDrive infotainment system, which comes with Bluetooth connectivity and a surround sound system. With the 330i, you could even use BMW ConnectedDrive to give you access to some of your vehicle’s information through your smartphone. At our BMW Austin shop, we can help you with troubleshooting if you ever run into problems with this system.

Equipped with safety in mind

Likewise, both of these BMW 3 series cars are fully equipped with safety in mind. A set of airbags surrounds the cabin, auto-dry brakes help maintain stopping power even in slippery conditions, and a rear backup camera is in place.

For either of these cars, though, it’s important to maintain them in order to keep them performing at a high level. At Pflugerville-based Active Euroworks, our BMW Austin auto shop, we have certified technicians who are ready to work on your vehicle. Whether you’re bringing it for an oil change or full tune-up, or you need us to diagnose and address a particular issue, we’ll concentrate on getting your BMW back out on the roads in top condition.
