BMW is not yet ready to present the revived 8-series, but at least the Bavarians are ready to please us with some juicy details about the G-8. For instance, the top-level coupe on test is the pinnacle of the range – the M850i xDrive – which is fitted with a newly-developed V8 engine, four-wheel drive and the latest performance technology.

Now the new 8-series is in the final development stage in Wales. As they say in the company, the “highly dynamic control characteristics” of the new coupe will be possible due to the fact that the car has a low center of gravity and increased rigidity of the body and suspension. A completely redeveloped V8 engine, intelligent four-wheel drive technology, an active rear axle differential lock, the adaptive M suspension Professional with active roll stabilization and Integral Active Steering are aimed to form a harmonized package for sportiness and comfort.

The new V8 power unit also contributes decisively towards the performance characteristics of the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe. Whist having the same weight as the predecessor engine, the new power unit mobilises an output that has been increased by 68 hp to 530 hp. Maximum torque has increased by 100 Nm to 750 Nm and is available at 1,800 rpm. The eight-cylinder engine delivers its power to an 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission.
