The Daimler company has recently released some info about technical updates on the coupe and the cabriolet of the new 2018 Mercedes-Benz E class. The main update is the modular two-liter M 264 petrol engine that has an output of 299hp providing 400 Nm (295 pound-feet) of torque from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm.

The vehicles will also feature a 48 V starter-alternator and EQ Boost  provides an additional 13 horsepower (10 kilowatts) and 110 pound-feet (150 Newton meters). Unlike the simple starter this combined node also carries out a role of traction electric motor. This is a great performance upgrade for the models.

The new versions of coupe and cabriolet with such power unit have received the E350 index. The coupe accelerates to 100kph (62mph) in 5.9 seconds, which is much faster than the cabriolet. The cabriolet needs an extra 0.2 second, accelerating to 100kph (62mph) in 6.1 seconds.

According to Mercedes, the upgrade is already available in some markets, though the engine won’t be available on the US-spec E-Classes for now.
