The German automaker has officially introduced a “charged” version of the new G-Class. The public debut of the new G-Wagen will take place at the international motor show in Geneva.

Let’s start with the main thing: the G63 will use a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that’s found in everything from the AMG GT R to the S560. It will pump out 577 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 627 pound-feet of torque between 2,500 and 3,500 rpm. This is certainly a lot, but compared to the previous G63 (W463), the gain was only 14 “horses”. But since the new G-Wagen is 175 kg lighter, it’s going to be much faster: a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed that’s electronically limited to 137 mph.

In terms of power, the G-8 is equivalent to the Mercedes-AMG GT R performance, but if the engine produced 700 Nm of torque in the sports coupe, then in the G63 it is 850 Nm. The previous generation of G63 with a 5.5-liter M157 engine was “only” 760 Nm.

The new G63 adjusts and distributes the power of the engine via AMG Speedshift TCT nice-speed automatic with a full-manual mode available, shifted via paddle shifters on the AMG-specific sport steering wheel. Set in the AMG 4-wheel drive system, 4MATIC up to sends 60% of the power rearward. The adaptive suspension has three modes (Comfort, Sport and Individual) and has also been modified by AMG specialists, various modes can be selected with AMG Dynamic Selection for control electronics and power units.

Visually, it’s easy to distinguish the new Mercedes-AMG G63 from the usual representatives of the new generation of G-Class by the unique radiator grille with vertical crossbars, another bumper with larger air intakes, wider wheel arches, ready to receive wheels up to 22 inches. Also, the G63 uses an updated exhaust system with two options for adjusting the sound of the V8.
